(Here's what I said when I saw this meme elsewhere: I know I should wear gloves when I dye my hair, but I hate wearing gloves so much that at least half the time I don't do it, even though I know I am incredibly messy with everything, including hair dye. And that is why my hands are purple right now. Also part of my face.)

(wow, this is weird; the first five things I thought of, I discarded as "too self-abasing" or "too braggy" argh!)

I am short. That is, compared to most US women in my age cohort, I'm noticeably shorter. I get better rest in airplanes! But sometimes it's tough to find other people in a crowd.

Do you have any particular feelings about your height?

I don't think of you as short, which I just realized. I think maybe we are not too far apart in height? I don't think of myself as short either, even though I am only 5'2". Oddly, a lot of people act surprised when I reveal my height. They say, "Are you sure? I thought you were much taller." I usually say it is because of my broad shoulders, which it may be, but it may be because of something else.

Lessee, people probably already know Jane Eyre is my favourite book, right? I have like FOUR editions of that giant Juliet Barker biography of the whole family: the original one I bought, in paperback. The original version, in hardback, because I use it all the time and it was on sale and also pretty. The revised and updated 10-years-later version, in hardback. AND the revised and updated 10-years-later version for the Kindle because NOW I CAN FINALLY KEYWORD SEARCH IT LIKE GOD INTENDED. ahem.

....how do I not have a Bronte girls icon? I should fix that.

Hee! I have read Jane Eyre three times, and I get different things out of it on each reading. I shudder to think of my 15-year-old self, who thought it was a stunning romance. Urgh.

I am extremely bad at deciding what I want my hair to do or look like, so when I get annoyed at it because it's too long (I can actually see it! Oh man!) I usually just chop it all off and start over with 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch of hair.

Why did you start dying your hair purple?

I dyed my hair pink and purple for a friend's wedding (I mean, not really for the wedding, but she had pink hair and offered to dye mine when she did her wedding touch up dye, and I said sure because color!). Anyway, I thought I would probably end up going back to brown pretty soon, but it turned out that waking up and seeing colorful hair made me so happy that I just kept dyeing it. I vacillate between blues and pinks and purples, but I think mostly I end up purple these days. It suits me.
